Jacob Smeaton, a proud Kerrupjmara man, was not just born but has been nurtured on Darkinjung Country.

In his time employed at Barang Regional Alliance, Jacob has attained formal education such as:

  • Bachelor of Global Indigenous Studies with Distinction at the University of Newcastle
  • Certificate IV Fitness at the Australian Institute of Fitness

Preceding his employment, Jacob gained the following achievements:

  • 2020 School Captain of Wyong High School
  • 2020 Novaskill Aboriginal Student of the Year
  • 2021 Finalist NSW Absec Youth of the Year
  • Certificate III Business at Novaskill
  • Uluru Statement from the Heart Youth Dialogue Member

Jacob’s unwavering dedication to youth empowerment, a passion recognised through his numerous achievements, has propelled him to his current role as the Team Leader of the Regional Youth Investment Program at Barang Regional Alliance.

He is coordinating the Regional Youth Investment Program, which encapsulates the significant Empowered Youth Summit and Guyung Minig, the Barang Regional Alliance youth leadership program.

Jacob aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from the Darkinjung Community by increasing opportunities to connect to culture, community, and aspirations while elevating their voices and opinions to decision-making.

Acknowledgement

Barang Regional Alliance acknowledges and pays respect to our ancestors – those who have gone before us - those who have cared for and managed these lands, seas and waterways for generations.

We pay respect to the Darkinyung people, whose land we operate and function on. We recognise and acknowledge all Aboriginal people who have come from their own Country and who now call Darkinjung Land home.

We pay tribute to our Elders past and present - we acknowledge our youth and emerging leaders who are our future guardians of Country, culture, language, and truth.
